Three Ways to Bootstrap your Startup

Office Space: When choosing your office space, try to work from home for as long as you can. In our first year of business we ran everything out of Kevin’s bedroom. We literally had his bed up on cinder blocks so that we could store our camera equipment underneath.

Keep rent low, and don’t commit yourself to more space than you need.  It’s better to be in a space that may be a bit to small than to be in a space too large and paying more than you need to.

Marketing:

With technology today there are so many ways you can market your company for free if you are willing to put forth the time. Take advantage of social media, youtube, blogs and other online outlets to help get your message out there in front of other clients.

Don’t underestimate the power of word of mouth marketing. If you have the time and the people skills, networking can become your single greatest marketing tool.

Personal Stretching:

Early on in the life of a business, you will often find yourself working hours longer than you ever imagined. The truth is, in the beginning you may not be able to hire the help you need and everything falls back on you. Get ready for some long nights, stock up on some much needed caffeine, and power through it. It will be worth it in the long run.
